Dear Members of the GIIRS Community,

Summer is upon us and we hope you are enjoying the warmer and longer days! The first half of 2012 was a productive one for GIIRS. In addition to an ever-expanding GIIRS marketplace of rated companies funds, we have three new Pioneer Investors and four new partnerships. The new Pioneer Investors include Ghana Venture Capital Trust, Vancity Community Capital and Labrador Ventures. To learn more about our partnerships with Nexii, Village Capital and BRiiX, visit our Partners page.

Other developments include:

  • The release of a revised section of our website that provides in-depth information on the GIIRS methodology, rating process and scoring approach for companies and funds (read more below);

  • Improve Your Score functionality available to all companies that complete the Impact Assessment via our online platform (read more below);

  • We continue to get great feedback on GIIRS Analytics during our private beta with Pioneer Funds and Investors. If you’d like to learn more about GIIRS Analytics, please visit our website.

    As always, thank you for supporting our efforts,

    The GIIRS Team

In-Depth Information about 'How GIIRS Works' at GIIRS.org

Consistent with our mission and philosophy to be transparent about how GIIRS operates and our rating process, we are pleased to share with you a new section of the GIIRS website – an online guide to GIIRS. This provides an overview of who we are, what we do, how we do it and why we do it.

The sections include:

  • GIIRS Overview: our history and governance structure

  • GIIRS Company Impact Ratings: details regarding company assessment structure, the rating process, score weightings and star ratings

  • GIIRS Fund Impact Ratings: details regarding fund rating methodology, the rating process, fund manager assessment and investment roll-up

  • Appendices: additional information regarding our privacy, company and fund assessments

New! Improve Your Score Tool Now Online

While rating over 240 companies, we heard from many companies that completing the GIIRS company assessment provided them with information on where they already achieve a high-level of impact and things they could do to improve their impact performance. In order to maximize the Impact Assessment as a learning and improvement tool, the Improve your score functionality is intended to provide resources for companies who want to improve their impact and is now live in the company portal.

Features of the Improve Your Score section include:

  • Pre-loaded, customized feedback reports: All questions from the company’s assessment are listed in ascending order and shows points earned and total points available per question, allowing companies to select which areas they would like to work on to improve their score.

  • Guidance on ease of implementation: Questions are labeled as Easy, Medium or Hard to implement in a one-year timeframe to guide companies in deciding what to work on.

  • Links to downloadable Best Practice Guides: The highlights where a question has a related best practice guide to help companies implement a certain policy or practice.

We will be scheduling webinars for those who are interested in learning more about this tool and will share details in the coming weeks.
